Intellectual Property Explained (ITC), Deptford
Jun 7, 2023

This course is a half-day, in-person course

What is this course about?

Intellectual Property(“IP”) is an issue that permeates work in the Performing Arts.  Every performance contains creative elements that will have IP Rights linked to them. This course will give you an overview of the key legal issues that can affect your productions.  It will help you to identify where IP Rights may exist when you are planning a show, who is likely to own them and how to get permission from the Rights Owners to use their work.  It will focus on Copyright, which is the most frequently referenced IP Right for most Performing Arts projects, but it will also introduce and explain many of the other areas of IP law that you are likely to come across in the course of creating a Production.  It will include a look at the areas of IP law that come into play when you are recording or streaming a production, what to do when you can’t find the IP Rights Owner and how best protect your company brand.  And, there will be a chance to discuss the tricky area of ownership of the Rights in devised work.

Who is this for?
