Pablo Colella: Innovative Arts Marketing, Audience Engagement & Psychology Consultant

Disconnected Bodies Ltd / Arts Audience Insights CIC

Expert in Innovative Arts Marketing. Audience Engagement & Psychology Consultant. Increasing access to the arts through public and placemaking projects.

I work to increase access to the arts for traditionally unengaged, underrepresented and discriminated audiences.

  • As Director and Lead Consultant of Disconnected Bodies Ltd, I support arts/culture professionals with the audience engagement challenges they are facing through overarching advice and practical engagement or arts marketing planning support.
  • As Director of Arts Audience Insights CIC, I partner with arts organisations, in conjunction with community groups and charities, to conduct psychographic research into an audience’s participation with the arts.

I look to ultimately widen, deepen, and democratise arts participation, enabling more people to access brilliant arts experiences – allowing stories to be shared and communities to be built. One of the most effective means of doing this is through outdoor, public and placemaking projects that utilize non-traditional arts venues; often removing barriers of uncertainty by presenting an offer in a familiar and well-frequented public space.

The Importance of Understanding Audience Psychology

  • Understanding the psychological make-up of an audience is essential in ensuring audience engagement moves past the limitations of arts marketing.
  • Dissection of the psychological needs and preferences of the audience allows for appreciation of any personal, situational, cultural, institutional and historical factors that may be influencing an audience’s willingness to engage.

As the only audience engagement consultant to place such heavy emphasis on psychology, I align psychographic considerations to effectively reach and connect with an audience segment; informing the building of cultural experiences so the public receives maximum value from the work.
