Natalie Reckert

The Art of Handbalancing | Award winning handstand artist Natalie Reckert in 'Superhero made from Sugar Icing' - a spectacular and comic self-portrait of an acrobat.

A highly skilled one-woman experiment to test the limits of the body and the stability of quite a few eggs … ‘Superhero made from Sugar Icing’ is an award winning piece combining comedy, hand balancing and performance art.

Against a background of electronic music Natalie Reckert performs over half the show in a handstand. Whilst upside down she lets us into the world of the handstand, and how her limbs are slowly starting to melt from the heat that rises in her body. She takes us into a universe where arms and legs become pieces of liquorice and the head becomes a cherry that is about to explode…

Based on Natalie’s award winning indoor performance ‘Selfie with eggs’ (4 Stars, Edinburgh Fringe)

Awarded Best Outdoor Performance at Kulturbörse Freiburg 2020.

Chosen by the ‘Guardian Pick’ as one of three best dance shows of the month: “You have probably not given much thought to handstands since childhood, but you will once you have seen German acrobat Natalie Reckert. She draws out the drama in the art and endurance of balancing upside down, with humour, an electro soundtrack and a dozen eggs.” Guardian, November 2019
