The latest performance tells the tale of defiance of the Dick Kerr Ladies Football team, who were so successful they caused a ban on Women’s football.
Jenny Reeves founded About Time Dance Company in 2016 after returning to her home of Lancashire. The company is inspired by Jenny’s passion for heritage and forgotten stories in the North of England and Lancashire. The Company’s work explores heritage and place through live dance performances and participatory projects. The work is often site-specific, delving into forgotten stories from our past and illuminating the spaces around us. By seamlessly situating professional dancers and community participants within our rich cultural landscapes, the work provides a unique way of getting more people to access the arts and to re-connect with communities and places that surround us.
Her first professional touring work ‘Cotton’ has toured the North West region bringing to life tales from Lancashire’s Mills. Moving forward from this success the company has made a number of performances across the region and works with a large pool of local artists and collaborators. She has developed a further passion for women’s history and uncovering local heroes. Her most recent choreographic work ‘Quite Unfit for Females’ explores the astounding tale of the Dick Kerr Ladies football team from Preston, who defied a ban on women’s football 100 years ago. Jenny hopes that her work will bring women’s history to the forefront and be celebrated by many.
Jenny completed her professional training at both the London Contemporary Dance School and Trinity Laban conservatoires and still works professionally as a dancer as well as running About Time Dance Company. She also teaches part-time at the University of Central Lancashire and works across the North West delivering and participating in a wide variety of projects.
