Experience Art in the Dark!

Light Night Leeds is the UK’s largest annual arts and light festival and returns on 12th and 13th October 2023.

For the past 18 years, over two incredible nights in October, some of Leeds’s most recognisable indoor and outdoor spaces have been transformed by spectacular artworks and captivating performances by local, national and international artists.

Light Night Leeds invites people to see the city in a new light and discover free arts events across the city centre. From large-scale light projections and interactive installations, to music, dance and street performances, there is always something for everyone

Continuum by Illumaphonium

This immersive artwork, presented for the first time in the UK, stands 2.5 metres tall and consists of a 20 metre geometric maze of illuminated and resonating mirrors. These luminescent sonic monoliths create a sense of an infinite space around the audience, redefining our understanding of a very familiar urban environment. When audience members approach the towers the exciters are activated and an enchanting and all-encompassing soundscape is created. Sounds that can be felt as well as heard.

Distant Drums by Whispered Tales

Distant Drums is a dynamic and thought-provoking installation experience that tells the story of Reggae Sound System culture and its role in the fight for racial equality. Born in the ghettos of Jamaica, shipped to the UK aboard the Windrush and now transmitted across the globe, the Sound System is the beating heart of DIY bass-heavy Caribbean rooted music. Incorporating Ska, Reggae, Grime, Rave, Jungle, Dubstep, Hip Hop and more, it is about throwing your own party your own way. Students from RJC Dance will be performing live with the installation during the evenings. Written by Madu Messenger, narrated by Macka B, and with a soundtrack by Vibronics, Distant Drums is an exhilarating performance not to be missed!
