This course is taught over a full day, in person and provides an overview of the fundamentals you need to be aware of when setting up your performing arts company. ITC’s CEO, Charlotte, and General Manager, Zoe, will explain company formation, contracts and intellectual property law, finance, fundraising and much more.
By the end of this course, you will have learnt:
The fundamental legal issues and the practicalities of setting up and running a Limited Company and the benefits and disadvantages of Charitable Status.
The differences between freelancers and employees and explain how to draft contracts that are appropriate.
the key legal issues relating to intellectual property, with a particular focus on copyright law.
The fundamentals of creating and managing a company budget, including ITC rates of pay.
Simple tips for fundraising within the independent sector.

This course is for anyone creating performance and wants to formalise the management of this.

Through the trainer’s presentation and group discussions and exercises. There will also be opportunities to ask questions and share your own experiences.
Trainer
Charlotte Jones is Chief Executive of ITC. She trained as a lawyer and has many years of experience in negotiating contracts and representing ITC and its members to funders, supporters, politicians, the press and media, development agencies, and the wider creative and cultural sector.
Zoe Bateman is the General Manager of ITC. Zoe studied Performing Arts at university, and after a short stint as an actor, she found her place in arts management. She has worked for the King’s Head Theatre, Ustinov Studio: Bath, Barbican Centre, and Tramshed (formally GLYPT). Zoe is a trained Mental Health First Aider and Trainee Counsellor.
