Dissecting Aerial (Gravity & Levity), Online & Brighton
Jan 15, 2022 - Jan 16, 2022

Dissecting Aerial is back for 2022! This time, the 2-day aerial dance symposium promoting healthy practice will be both live at Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts in Brighton AND live-streamed internationally online.

The event will showcase practice, pedagogical and personal approaches to healthy and sustainable practice from aerial artists, researchers, bodyworkers, medical and sports science practitioners from across the globe. We’re able to bring you world-renowned practitioners and speakers, wherever you are, whether you’re joining us solo at home, with your community in your local studio, or with us at ACCA.

We recognise the difficulties and disparities of international travel right now, whilst also acknowledging the necessity to return to practice, rebuild and nurture our aerial communities and networks. If there’s one positive that has come out of all of this, it has been in maintaining connections (albeit virtually) and recognising the relative ease with which we can come together across time zones.

We’ll be partnering with aerial organisations and training centres worldwide to create global watching and participation hubs, where your team / local community can safely gather, connect to us virtually in the UK and participate live in-person in your local area. This way we can celebrate what unites us: our mutual passions for aerial practice and to revel in the diversity of those.

The Line-Up Will Include Presentations And Practical Sessions:
  • ‘Hanging with awareness’ – working with the principles of opposition, mobility and connection in the air
  • ‘POSER’:  Navigating Imposter Syndrome and reclaiming your future as an artist
  • Recognising Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder and Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
  • Proprioception Exercises for Hypermobile Humans
  • ‘Attracting and Fostering Plus-Size Aerial Students’
  • The science of the c-shape
  • Harnessing your hormones for older aerialists
  • Starting points to engage with aerial fabric for non-typical bodies (and everyone)
  • Longevity in movement practice
  • Approaches to building advocacy for diversity, mental health and emotional well being.
  • Accessibility and Inclusion. Reframing the myth of diversity – one cannot exist without the other.
  • ‘Epistolary Aerial Adventures.’
