This children’s rights based Professional Development Session – Thinking Together to Live Together explores best practice when working in the expressive arts with and/or for children and young people. It is delivered by Dr Claire Cassidy of the University of Strathclyde.
This session will introduce participants to practical philosophy and how it might align with the desire to promote children’s human rights. With a particular focus on voice and participation, we’ll consider ways in which practical philosophy allows a space for children and young people to express themselves and participate more fully. In doing so, we’ll explore ways in which children and childhood are understood, and how this might have a bearing on the opportunities we create for children’s participation. Participants will engage in some philosophical dialogue and advice will be given to support the facilitation of dialogue with children and young people. The goal of the session is that participants leave with a sense of how thinking together might support living well together, ready to explore how this may be applied within their own practice.
The course will take place online over zoom and will be a safe, confidential space for collective problem solving, shared learning and questions from youth arts practitioners.
