About Us
Urban Angels established in 2000. is a black and female-led aerial theatre company led by Deborah Joy Sanderson, who has over 30 years of experience of creating outdoor performances and breathtaking stories in the sky that captivate audiences. We specialise in combining extraordinary aerial skills with strong narratives, crafting shows that are visually striking and emotionally engaging.
We play with the form of projects and the type of venues we use. We created a boudoir for courtiers from King Charles reign at contemporary music festivals, an immersive game in a circus ring, The minotaur’s maze in a music venue with a promenade to an performance to witness Daedalus and Icarus from a church tower and a bird /bag lady flies in the rafters of a church. Our only actual play performed in a warehouse and a barn.
Our performances are inspired to enrich audiences experience. Our expertise ensures every performance meets the highest standards of safety while showcasing daring aerial artistry. Professionalism and creativity go hand in hand in every project we deliver.

Aerial Performances
We perform on our beautifully crafted curved structures, developing innovative and emotionally charged shows that push the boundaries of aerial theatre. Each performance is carefully designed to mesmerise and inspire, making the extraordinary feel within reach.
In addition to using traditional aerial skills such as trapeze, aerial hoop and silks, Urban Angels have also developed vertical dance skills that respond to remarkable spaces and landscapes. From cliffs and church towers to open-air venues, we transform vertical environments into stages, connecting audiences with stories told through movement and aerial mastery. We aim to create visually unforgettable experiences that highlight the beauty of both performance and place!

Mr Pablo Fanque, a circus theatre play celebrating the extraordinary life of this very talented but unsung Black Victorian circus equestrian and impresario. The arc of Pablo’s life, a story of love, tragedy and aspiration spans from rags to riches.
