Red Herring is a theatre company based in Bideford, North Devon. We specialise in outdoor, interactive performance that blurs the edges between the performance and the audience. Our work is fun, comic, curious and considered. It is made for outdoor presentation, responding to the haphazard and fluid nature of the world outside our front doors.
We make performance for street corners, urban parks and as we are based in rural North Devon, also in more remote locations. We take a sideways look at the world we live in and encourage others to join us, in experiencing familiar places in new and unfamiliar ways.
We have three strands of work:
- Touring outdoor performance – we have been commissioned by Green Carpet, Without Walls, North Devon AONB, Magnetic Arts, Arts Fresco and others

Community related projects in Devon – including schools projects and our burgeoning local outdoor arts festival Stepping Out.

Strategic thinking – we work as consultants and are positioned in local cultural strategy groups.
We are Fiona Fraser Smith, Paschale Straiton and Kim Tilbrook. Together we share a wealth of experience as producers, directors and performers.
