Family-Run Outdoor Arts and Street Theatre Company Based in Cornwall

Hotch Potch Performance have been creating outdoor performances since 2012. Ross and Laura first met on the BA Street Arts degree at The University of Winchester. Together with a group of Street Arts students, Hotch Potch began with the walkabout act Ka-Dunk-A-Junk. The company brought this metal clanging group of outsiders to the likes of London 2012 Olympics, Winchester’s Hat Fair, Glastonbury Festival and across the seas to La Rue est à Amiens in France.

Later, Laura and Ross relocated to Ross’s home of Cornwall, where they were married and developed their practice creating a variety of ongoing walkabouts, human statues, fire performance and creative workshops. Then in 2014, they toured their first Arts Council funded show which combined their interests of stilt walking, storytelling and the theme of miniature to tour Café Petite.

Shortly after they started their family with their first child. Then in 2016 created the one-man storytelling show The Tiny Tour.

Towards the end of 2017, the family then relocated to Northern Ireland, whilst there they created Detritus of the Deep, which was commissioned by Pitch’d Circus Arts Festival in Cork Ireland.

Environmental awareness began to take the central theme for Ross and Laura’s work and they then went on to create The Washed Up Mermaid in 2020.

Hotch Potch are now based in Cornwall and continue to create work that is evolving with our changing times- within the recent pandemic, the climate crisis and beyond. The Tiny Audio Tour, was created during lockdown 2021. The piece was funded by FEAST Cornwall and is an ongoing installation currently set up at Heartlands Cornwall.

Hotch Potch were commissioned by the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in 2022 and made the story telling show “Detritus and the Mermaid”. The interactive show was aimed at children and their grown ups as part of  A World at Sea during the easter holidays. The company then further explored this theme whilst working with young people in the Portreath area of Cornwall. Supported by Portreath Improvements Committee Hotch Potch have brought a series of workshops, performances and community days to the area. Hotch Potch also work closely with the Circus Works in Devoran teaching circus to young people. Ross is a valued member of the Cirque Du Ciel and Air Fish Circus team
