DISTRICT 2

MARKET SQUARE

Breathing Room

Step inside and let the magic of Breathing Room enfold you with its soft light and the creaking and whirring sound of 28,000 cones slowly breathing in … and out … and in … and out …Breathing Room by UK artist Anna Berry is a walk-in, kinetic light installation that beautifully combines organic and machine elements into a unique sensory experience.
Its mechanical exterior skeleton contrasts sharply with the organic interior, which creates a sense of the uncanny. Every element of the structure is bespoke and hand-made. Whether you prefer immersing yourself in its otherworldly interior, or enjoy exploring the construction mechanics, the transformative power of Breathing Room will keep you transfixed. Anna Berry is an artist who usually works with installation and photography. Her work is frequently shown in non-gallery environments. Anna works in a variety of media, but paper forms a large part of her sculptural vocabulary because of its fragile and ephemeral nature. She is based in Milton Keynes, England.

DISTRICT 3

CHRIST CHURCH GARDENS

Sit, Stop

Sit, Stop by Sally Hogarth includes nine structures people are invited to sit on, pause and notice the nature and heritage around them. Art packs will be available to encourage visitors to respond to their surroundings through creative activities.

Taking Flight

An exciting, thought-provoking & spectacular outdoor dance show inspired by Movema’s experiences of migration & informed by refugee and asylum seeker communities with whom we work. Using the concept of 4 symbolic birds to represent futuristic cyborgs, whose bodies are part aircraft, part bird, part human; the Fenghuang (also known as Phoenix) from Chinese culture, the Peacock from Indian culture, the Sankofa bird from Ghanaian culture and the Liver bird to representing British & Irish culture. Costumes have been created by The Lantern Company inspired by these birds and by humans’ desire for freedom & flight & the role of modern aeronautics to enable this. The work explores themes of migration, human relationship with technology, citizenship & belonging alongside Movema’s signature playful & engaging world dance. Commissioned by Dance Consortia North West & Cheshire Dance, Spareparts Festival and Now Northwich & funded by Arts Council England.
