The Southwold Arts Festival will be launched with a colourful street event. Expect an explosion of colour, singing and music. The High Street will be closed to traffic to allow choirs, bands & street entertainers to take over the town centre. A vintage market and delicious food stalls will line the High Street.
Our theme is Rainbows – we want to flood the high street with colour for this extra special celebration. Festivities start with a fancy-dress parade, which is open to all and will start at 11.45am at the police station led by the Suffolk School of Samba, who will get the party started with their infectious music and dance. You may win a prize for the best and most colourful costumes.
The procession will arrive at the Market Place where our celebrity guest, Charlie Mackesy author of “a book of hope for uncertain times”– The Boy, The Fox, The Mole and The Horse, will open the Festival.
Throughout the afternoon musicians, dancers and street performers will entertain the audience in the Market Place while stalls will line the High Street providing food, drink and shopping opportunities.
