The Dukes Theatre Company’s production of Macbeth offers a dynamic reimagining of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy. Known for their bold and innovative interpretations, the company brings a contemporary edge to the dark tale of ambition, murder, and madness. With a strong focus on the psychological unravelling of the protagonists director Robert Shaw Cameron (Coronation Street, Regents Park Open Air Theatre, Sheffield Crucible) and designer Jessica Curtis (Hampstead Theatre, Almeida Theatre, Royal National Theatre) create this production with a cast of six industry leading actors.
Macbeth is a timeless tragedy that delves into the corrosive effects of unchecked ambition. The play follows the tragic downfall of Macbeth, a loyal warrior. On his return from war, three witches offer Macbeth the prospect of ultimate control when they prophesise that he will become Thane of Cawdor and then King of Scotland. Desperate for a new future, he and his wife set out to make it a reality by unleashing a devastating chain of events using any means necessary to hold on to power as the world collapses around them.
