Following the success of our first ‘Circuit’ last October, The Lowry’s iconic waterside setting becomes the stage again for three more of the most exciting new outdoor dance and circus productions.
Upswing’s Catch Me, Jamaal O’Driscoll’s ONE% and Mimbre’s Lifted will all be performed as you journey on a 360 degree, 60-minute journey around the outside of the building.
Upswing: Catch Me
Catch Me is an intimate and surprising take on age, race and gender. An older woman and younger man dance together through a landscape of abandoned chairs, discovering joy, risk and unexpected connections in a poignant duet.
A poetic mix of dance and acrobatics, Catch Me asks how we see each other and who we value.
Jamaal O’Driscoll: ONE%
ONE% is a 15-minute dance performance featuring the dynamic rawness of breakin’. Two b-boys with colliding mental states respond to the energy of society around them, moving through emotions that can often be misunderstood.
Exploring the battle between two sides of the same psyche, ONE% sees the dancers coming up against each other – not in combat, but in wary uncertainty. Poignant themes of duality of the mind and the importance of mental health awareness drive the work, to convey the power of emotion, intensity and despair through movement and music.
Performed by West Midlands based artists Jamaal O’Driscoll and Marius Mates.
Mimbre: Lifted
Lifted is a collection of funny, poetic and surprising moments, which explore in different ways what it means when one body is carried by another. Or when one person carries two people. Or when a person doesn’t want to be carried. Or when three people find the perfect balance.
Lifted is supported by Without Walls and Arts Council England, and commissioned by Stockton International Riverside Festival.
