‘In the steps of the Creative Industries Foundation, outdoor arts advocates have decided to get political.’

Thank you Simon Tait for this fantastic commentary piece for Arts Industry. His reading of the Outdoor Arts Sector Strategy is spot on.

Outdoor arts is at the forefront of delivering on DCMS ambitions of “arts for everyone”. We animate public space, reach communities beyond formal venues and embed cultural experience into every corner of ordinary life.

Simon goes on to write:

‘That money, from Nandy’s £1.5bn Arts Everywhere Fund launched in January, is not for “everywhere”: it’s for buildings such as the Lowry Centre in Salford and the Theatre Royal at Stratford East, for art within refurbished walls.’

He concludes:

‘As costs persistently and ever more sharply rise, artists are in urgent need of support if they are going to continue to fill that civic role. But it shouldn’t be seen as just a grim challenge.’

Arts in outdoor space will bring home the message that:

JOY is not frivolous – It’s a Civic Force

BELONGING is not optional – It’s Fundamental to Thriving Communities

We stand ready to step up and help build communities through great art.
