Light Night Leeds invites you to see the city in a new light and discover free arts events across the city centre, from large-scale light projections and interactive installations, to music, dance, and street performances. Tonight see Hourglass by Emergency Exit Arts, Luma by Air Giants, Luke Jerram’s GaiaMuseum Menagerie by Handmade Parade, Murmurations by Shared Space and Light, Lightening Catchers by Seb Lee-Delisle, Nature At Night by The Lantern Company and Roma Yagnik, and many more!

Blackpool’s Lightpool Festival returns today, with an amazing free programme of light- based art installations, parades, lasers, live performances, family-friendly activities, and 3D projection shows. This weekend take part in a LumiDogs workshop, join in with lantern making, watch the Blackpool Tower Projections, and follow the town centre Light Art Trail to see outdoor spaces and iconic buildings transformed by spectacular light works.

The Royal Docks Originals Festival began this week, with exciting new world premieres, free family activities, diverse artworks, theatre, workshops, and music. An exciting highlight that you can experience from today is The Royal Docks Rainbows! Get ready for a fun, flavourful revelation as international multi-sensory experience designers Bompas & Parr have created the world’s first rainbow you can actually interact with. Head below Silvertown Way, Britain’s first flyover, and you’ll find the Royal Docks Flavour Rainbow, an incredible sensory experience that immerses you in the history of the Royal Docks and Newham. Then from next week experience Arrival, where performers will take you on an audio-visual journey through local streets: there’ll be music, beatboxing, dance and many more surprises packed into the show.

Today marks the beginning of Journeys Festival International, taking place in LeicesterManchester and Portsmouth until 24 Oct. The festival curates, presents and commissions a varied programme of work created by artists exploring the refugee experience and global cultures through artistic and creative encounters. This year’s programme includes an inspiring and powerful mix of visual and digital art exhibitions, virtual reality installations, performances, food gatherings, films and animations created by artists from around the globe.

Expect a brilliant programme of arts, science, literature, performance, discussion, and reflection, as Bloomsbury Festival returns this weekend, running until 24 Oct. Tonight don’t miss fiery spectacle, neon sculptures, light projections and more along Cromer Street. Marvel at neon sculptures by Chila Kumari Singh Burman, enjoy a display of Bengali silk banners from Kinetika, become immersed in a live video projection from street artist Mohammed Ali, be enthralled by a spectacular fire and light marble run installation by the Bureau of Silly Ideas, and see Arunima Kumar Dance.

Join Justice in Motion in Ken Aston Square tomorrow for their UK tour finale of On Edge, part of Vision RCL and Circulate London’s free programme of Outdoor Arts. On Edge combines highly physical parkour and compelling theatre to tell a gripping story about modern slavery within the construction industry. Performances at 1pm and 4pm.

Climb out of the Zoomiverse and back in to the real world with Hastings Storytelling Festival, beginning this weekend, with immersive, creative, thought-provoking storytelling for all ages. Tomorrow join Padmacandra for a reading of The Tale of the Whale, followed by an interactive session and craft workshop, then on Sunday experience Cloudscapes with Gobbledegook Theatre, and look up as Lorna tells stories of her relationship with the troposphere and the journey of a lifetime with her father.

Tomorrow at 7pm it’s carnival time in Castle Cary! Take all the family along to the Castle Cary and Ansford Carnival procession, see the magical lantern parade, and enjoy live music at the Market House. Also tomorrow, get ready for Hartlepool Family Folk Day, a whole day of free fun for all the family at the Headland Town Square. See Out of the Deep Blue by Autin Dance Theatre and take part in craft, circus skills, percussion, and ukelele workshops.

The creators of the award-winning Lightopia Festival present, Dino Kingdom: an epic prehistoric exploration landing in Nottinghamshire from today until 31 Oct. Step back in time at Thoresby Park and explore roaring and moving Dinosaurs and state-of-the-art 3D and AR technology, and immerse yourself in interactive activities.
