Masterclass & Workshop: Outdoor Arts, Brixton, London
Dec 2, 2022
Join our team of Outdoor Arts experts as they discuss how to get into making Outdoor Theatre!

Masterclass 7pm-8.30pm

Join us for a Panel Talk on making work in public spaces, how it is financed as an art form that is largely free to attend, and the freedom of making work that can be performed (almost) anywhere.

  • Roger Hartley will tell us how the Bureau of Silly Ideas’ ever-increasing herd of radio-controlled street furniture – road cones, wheelie bins and portaloos – is causing chaos across the UK
  • Liz Pugh will talk about her 30 years making work in public spaces from fire gardens to opening ceremonies, and how she persuaded a bank to finance the purchase of an old Norwegian ferry, to transform it into Europe’s first touring theatre ship
  • Adam McGuigan will share how Theatre Témoin are exploring the health of the world’s oceans through the eyes of Britain’s coastal communities
  • Fee Hudson Francis will explain how Hat Fair continues its work as the UK’s longest-running festival of Outdoor Arts

This panel discussion will take place at the Bureau of Silly Ideas venue, Club Silly in Brixton.

Workshop 4pm-6pm Strictly Limited Places

Join us for this hands-on introduction to street theatre. In this workshop, you will learn about making work in public spaces, devise a short performance, and drive people mad with robots out in the streets of Brixton. This session is led by Roger Hartley, the Artistic Director of the Bureau of Silly Ideas.
