Culture East Sussex and the University of Sussex invite you to an informative session on how we can better plan for and respond to racism and other targeted prejudice and violence in public spaces and exhibitions.
Over the last few years we have seen a rise in racially motivated attacks to public art. By taking part in this session you will have the opportunity to pose questions to professionals, learn from real case studies, and leave with practical advice to include in the planning of your next event, exhibition, or installation.
During the day we will hear from the following:
- University of Sussex – Divya Tolia-Kelly
- Sussex Police – Sergeant Peter Hayward
- The EA Consultancy – Jess Taylor and Razia Aziz
- Alinah Azadeh
- Facilitated by Jenny Williams
Topics will include:
- The history and context of these issues
- How to prepare for attacks in your planning by using Risk Registers and Equality Impact Assessments
- How to communicate with colleagues, the public, and artists when public works are defaced or destroyed
- How to involve the community in your project planning
- When to talk with Sussex Police and what this will look like
Once registered, you will be invited to submit questions prior to the event.
