Professional Printmaking for All People In A Pop-Up Phonebox

Two Tin Cans is a pop-up phonebox that can go anywhere! Step inside the phonebox to discover a tiny printmaking studio and make a professional print to take home as a beautiful momento of your day.

Created in 2019 as an ACE funded project, Two Tin Cans was developed by artist Suzie Devey (www.suziedevey.co.uk) as a way to tackle loneliness in rural and urban areas of Tees Valley and North Yorkshire. Since then the phonebox has been in demand as a pop-up studio to engage people in creativity.

Two Tin Cans contains a gorgeous collection of artwork as prepared linocut blocks.  People choose a block and make a print to keep.  Two Tin Cans features 16 from the collection each time we pop-up. Suzie Devey can also create bespoke printing blocks in advance of an event for any theme to highlight your event or story. Every person is guided through the printing process by an artist in residence, making every interaction highly personalised. The printing process is quick and can be enjoyed by entire family groups as they all peer through the windows to watch a print being made by their family member.

Two Tin Cans is equipped with a solar panel to power surprises inside… include a telephone that plays recorded sounds. It features a fully working printing press… and a spoon so people can quickly learn how printing works.

Two Tin Cans can have hundreds of prints made by different people in a day, usually around 300-400 people. But the level of engagement is much higher as people enjoy the spectacle through the windows and engage in activities as they queue… creating a sense of anticipation and wonder.
