YEA Devizes is a very appropriate abbreviation of Youth Event Area Devizes. This is the name of a project that DOCA has developed for several key reasons, to benefit both those that take part and everyone who enjoys local events. Working from the outset with young people to develop the idea with coproduction at it’s foundation, we created a project outline for which we successfully received finding from the Local Area Board for the first phase, and the National Grid Community Fund for the second, that will culminate in an event in the Market Place on Sunday 4th May.
To start with, we wanted to know what this generation of young people thought of the events as they are; do they see themselves represented? If not, how would they like to change that? To answer these questions, whilst creating learning opportunity to upskill young people, we created “Selfievaluation”. As part of the first phase of YEA Devizes, Selfievalution offered young adults the opportunity to learn professional filming and recording tips and skills from experts with decades of experience filming. With this support we asked them to film the 2024 Devizes Carnival while giving their opinion – aka evaluation – of the event and how they saw themselves represented.
