6 DAYS OF WORKSHOPS | 3 DAYS OF EVENTS | 1 FESTIVAL
NOVUM – Newcastle Summer Festival – is a brand-new festival experience for Newcastle Upon Tyne. The multi-artform event, taking place for the first time from 11-13 August 2023, will showcase local, national, and international talent to transform the Civic Centre and surrounding gardens into a cultural playground, where audiences can make, explore and engage with art, music, performances and installations.
Including… Olivier Grossetête’s Monumental Construction
Since 2003, Olivier Grossetête has built his Participative Monumental Constructions across the world. With almost 200 different constructions, he has visited five continents and recruited thousands of people in his adventures. You, your group, and your family are invited to participate in this gigantic and spectacular project constructing a new piece of art inspired by Newcastle’s architecture, made with only cardboard boxes and tape!
6-10 Aug – The Build: Anyone aged 9+ can be part of the city’s history by joining NOVUM’s first artist Olivier Grossetête to build his Monumental Construction in the Banqueting Hall of the Civic Centre.
11 Aug – The Monumental Construction: Join in the team constructing Olivier Grossetête’s new artwork for Newcastle and get free entry to the launch party! The Monumental Construction will take place on Fri 11 Aug on Ceremonial Way outside the Civic Centre with an opening party free to all who have participated in the build (sign-up essential). We will start at 9.00am and expect it to take up to 8 hours. You can come and join us for as short or as long as you want – but you need to sign up.
13 Aug – The Monumental Destruction: On Sun 13 Aug we will then gather to make the Colossal Destruction happen as we make our magical community construction created with Olivier Grossetête disappear. We will start at 5.00am and expect it to take 2 hours. You can come and join us for as short or as long as you want – but you need to sign up.
