World-renowned and Leamington Spa-based dance-circus company, Motionhouse will transform Centenary Square in Birmingham into the stage for Wondrous Stories, an inspiring large-scale production which will be the opening show of the Birmingham 2022 Festival.
Audiences will be able to attend seven performances of this spectacular, free event, which will bring together the people of Birmingham in a celebration of the wondrous stories of ordinary people across the region.
A giant aerial spectacle with a flying book, bicycles and a large globe, are just some of the thrilling elements that will wow the audience alongside incredible digital projections that will help set the scene for this extraordinary dance-circus performance.
Wondrous Stories will be conceived and directed by Kevin Finnan, Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Motionhouse. Kevin will collaborate with choreographers Sonia Sabri and Jamaal Burkmar to develop the choreography for the show. Participants from Critical Mass, a new inclusive dance collective of up to 300 young people, led by Birmingham 2022 Festival and DanceXchange, will get the incredible opportunity to work with the three creatives and the Motionhouse dancers to make the choreographic content of Wondrous Stories. Critical Mass will form part of the large cast of the production, performing alongside the professional Motionhouse performers as well as choirs, actors and poets.
