The Manresa Mediterranean Performing Arts Fair is a strategic marketplace for artistic proposals that use local roots, tradition and popular culture as a creative driving force. The event looks at tradition from a 360° angle: from its starting point, intangible and cultural heritage, moving on to associations of popular and traditional culture, which work to bring intangible heritage to society, and finally ending with the professional sector, that is, the artists who create using this tradition. The Fair places special emphasis on the exchange, interrelation and intersection of all three.
It is a multidisciplinary event with a three-part programme. One showcases music on the Mediterranean world and folk music scene, highlighting what is new in Catalan folk music. A second section is dedicated to the performing arts, with dance, theatre, circus, street theatre and proposals for family audiences based on intangible heritage and popular and traditional culture. Then there is a popular culture and association section, where the emphasis is on how it meshes with the professional arts sector while also looking at the intangible heritage of the Mediterranean.
This all comes to life with a programme of proposals based on the idea of tradition and local culture as a creative driving force; local tradition with a multidirectional outlook that speaks to us today, in the here and now. The professional sphere is also there to actas a meeting and exchange space, creating a point of contact and negotiation for both the performing arts and the music sectors.
