A Little Patch of Ground (Parrabbola), Birmingham
Nov 4, 2022 - Nov 5, 2022

A little patch of ground is a guided audio performance across various locations in Birmingham city centre.

Please join us for this guided audio performance based on interviews with the Polish community and Polish Shakespeare translations. Participants will need to bring their own smartphone and headphones, and will need to be able to download an App at the start of the show.

The performance will begin at Snow Hill Station and will last for approximately 50 minutes. It will end at the Library of Birmingham where participants will have the opportunity to view the Everything to Everybody: Your Shakespeare, Your Culture exhibition.

Did you know that Polish translations of William Shakespeare’s plays date back to the 19th century? Or that Polish Shakespeare aided Poland’s fight for freedom? Did you know that the Polish theatre has always championed Shakespeare innovation? And did you know that the Shakespeare Memorial Library located in the Library of Birmingham holds hundreds of donations of Polish Shakespeare translations, theatre posters, and more?

The Everything to Everybody project collaborated with a team of researchers and theatre makers from Parrabbola to discover the Polish Shakespeare holdings in the Shakespeare Memorial Library and to support the creation of this guided performance, ‘A little patch of ground’. A great many stories emerged as a result of this research, including the Polish struggle for freedom and making theatre during censorship: always with Shakespeare’s words as an inspiration.

Please note that the performance will take place at various locations across the city centre and on a range of surfaces so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring waterproofs if it is raining. If you have access concerns then please contact us for more information.
