Sonic Spheres transforms Woolwich Works into a living, resonant environment where multiple spherical loudspeaker arrays animate the space with fully immersive 3D sound. Audiences are invited into an extraordinary encounter with sound in space – a world where listening becomes physical, spatial, and deeply embodied.
By day, artists, technologists, and researchers present talks, panels, and hands-on workshops exploring the forefront of immersive audio. From 3D composition and sound architecture to psychoacoustics and spatial perception, the programme examines how sound shapes the way we sense, move through, and understand the world.
By night, the venue becomes a site of performance. Multiple spherical arrays converge in a unique evening concert, generating rich, multidimensional soundscapes that surround, shift, and unfold in space – inviting audiences to listen in entirely new ways.
Sonic Spheres is a one-day conference and concert dedicated to creative, critical, and experimental approaches to spatial audio, with a particular focus on composing and performing with the IKO loudspeaker.
The 2026 edition foregrounds practice and experimentation, centring on composing, and performing for both singular and multiple IKO systems. The IKO loudspeaker functions as both instrument and environment – a platform for spatial composition, live diffusion, and immersive performance.
