Outdoor Arts Portugal is an interdisciplinary platform promoted by Bússola, aimed at Portuguese creative and production agents in the fields of arts in public space and contemporary circus. Its objective is to enhance the development of contemporary artistic creation in these domains, focusing on a mission to promote and disseminate the most current artistic languages and innovative dramaturgies, while fostering international sectoral communication aligned with European networks and platforms, maximising opportunities for national artistic agents.
Biennially, the OUTDOOR ARTS PORTUGAL SHOWCASE is presented in a live version, in partnership with LEME, highlighting emerging Portuguese artists with innovative artistic proposals for public space and unconventional places for artistic presentation. In 2024, the manifesto for this concerted action aims to uphold the principle of valuing the “common space” as a place of encounters, emphasising people as an essential element in the experience of public space and their stories as a tool for memory and humanisation of the common space.
The programmatic context focuses on aesthetic innovation, seeking to present emerging and innovative dramaturgies in line with the most current European trends, challenging spaces and provoking artists and audiences to alter their perspectives. The synergistic programming vision for this edition is allied with the hosting of two European cooperation projects (BETA CIRCUS and Hand to Hand) with increased potential to attract international promoters and add value to the visibility of participating artists.
An initial phase of the showcase will take place digitally, open to an international audience of professionals.
