Head along to Rathbone Market on Saturday for Rathbone Roots, an afternoon celebration of Canning Town’s cultural vitality with a programme of free dance, music, comedy, and street food, presented by Festival.org as part of Newham Unlocked Festival. Starting at 1pm, the exciting programme includes Born to Protest by Joseph Toonga/Just Us Dance, Raise the Roof hosted by Quincy aka The Cockney Prince, Pan Vibration Steel Band, Reggae Choir, Yusef Yare, Alex ‘Mechanikool’ Peters, and Lion Dance & Chai Ching by the Newham Chinese Association.

Get ready for light projection, community performances and workshops celebrating the intersection of art, science and technology this weekend as Milton Keynes Islamic Arts & Culture presents the ‘City of Light’ festival. Visit the stall at MK Innovates STEM festival to take part in art and science workshops, and then join Dundu and Worldbeaters for the parade show with music and dance, followed by community concerts and a laser light show. As soon as it gets dark, Seb Lee-Delisle’s Laser Light City will illuminate the skies above Milton Keynes. You can even take part and control the lasers, playing with colours and patterns via your smartphone.

It’s the last weekend of Lincoln Performing Arts Centre’s PopOut 2021 Festival, offering an exciting mix of outdoor performance, pop-up theatre and unexpected creative experiences that animate the city. This weekend’s highlights include Autin Dance Theatre’s Out of the Deep Blue, James Wilton Dance Company’s iROBOT, Transported Aerial Dance Programme, and The Handlebards’ Macbeth, plus don’t miss the free post-show discussion with the HandleBards tomorrow at 5pm in the PopOut Dome.

In London this weekend? Join Dance Umbrella for exhilarating live outdoor works in Bell Square tomorrow. See Ahilan Ratnamohan’s Extra Time, as six footballers go head-to-head on a concrete pitch, and battle it out…without a ball. Exploring the choreographic potential of football movement, this brand new work challenges our perceptions of the beautiful game away from the green grass, the stadium and the urgent need for a result. Then witness the culmination of Dance Umbrella’s Assemble project as students from West Thames College, working in collaboration with Becky Namgauds and Tyrone Isaac-Stuart, perform their brand new dance work.

Looking ahead to next week, Light Night Leeds begins on Thursday, Lightpool Festival returns to Blackpool from Friday, Journeys Festival International takes place in Leicester, Manchester and Portsmouth from Friday to 24th October, and in London Bloomsbury Festival presents a programme of arts, science, literature, and performance, starting on Friday.

As always, let us know what you’re up to and have a great weekend.
