Art Council England Emergency funding package back to listing
Some major news from Arts Council England which will affect all of us in every part of the cultural sector.
Today, Arts Council England announced the first details of its emergency funding package. While it will be supporting those organisations in the ACE National Portfolio (£90M), it is very important to note that the support will extend beyond this to non-NPOs (£50M) and to, crucially, to individuals (£20M).
Full details about the application process are to follow, but everyone reading this should take some comfort in knowing that this has been announced. Of course, this covers England, and we hope that other similar actions will follow across the rest of the UK.
Darren Henley, Chief Executive of ACE writes:
- “This is a frightening time for all of us, and a moment of great strain for the cultural sector. But, already, I’ve seen artists and organisations begin to draw on their bottomless ingenuity and creativity to dream up ways to connect, comfort and uplift us in the face of uniquely challenging circumstances. As we physically distance ourselves from one another in our daily lives, I believe the role of arts and culture in helping to bring us all together will become ever more critical.”
We would like to celebrate the Arts Council’s speedy, reassuring and thorough response to this crisis, and assure you that the OutdoorArtsUK team will work with our members and the wider outdoor sector to support them to apply for and access this fund.
Art Council England Emergency funding package
We will offer individuals and organisations working in the cultural sector new financial support during this crisis, totalling £160 million. We’ve re-purposed all our investment strands to be able to offer this support. These emergency funding streams will be open to applications very soon.
Funding for National Portfolio Organisations
We will be making £90 million available to NPOs. We hope organisations will use this funding to reboot their creative work, but we also understand it may be required to alleviate financial pressures on NPOs.
Funding for organisations outside of the National Portfolio
£50 million will be made available to organisations that are not in receipt of regular funding from the Arts Council. Organisations who have applied to National Lottery Project Grants are welcome to apply for this support.
Funding for individuals
We want to support artists, creative practitioners and freelancers as best we can in this crisis. We’re making £20 million of financial support available to individuals, so they can better sustain themselves, and their work, in the coming months.
