Dunster by Candlelight back to all events

Dunster by Candlelight was started in 1986. It is paid for by the Traders of Dunster. Most of the traders open for Candlelight and nearer the time we will publish a list of those Traders who have sponsored the Event. Candlelight is also run in aid of St Margaret’s Hospice and all the money from the sale of the programme goes to the Hospice. You will find collectors round the village on both nights. We hope you will be generous

Candlelight takes place every year on the first Friday and Saturday of December when this remarkably preserved medieval village turns its back on the present and lights its streets with lanterns and where possible candles in the houses

There is no charge to get into Dunster by Candlelight, the only cost is the bus fare from one of the stops in Minehead, Willtion, Watchet, Porlock and Wheddon Cross. The bus fare is £4 single or return. Children under 12 accompanied by an adult are free. The bus fare helps towards the cost of the buses, Candlelight and a contribution towards the St Margaret’s Hospice. Dogs are allowed on the buses and there is a bus for the disabled from the far end of the Car Park behind Minehead Station

When you arrive in Dunster it is ‘possible’ to walk from one end of the village to the other enjoying all the entertainment without any extra cost. Of course we hope you will buy something in the shops or put some pennies in the collecting tins but, that is up to you.
